Export of IT services in Kuban increased by one and a half times in two years

The Vice Governor, Aleksander Ruppel, presented to the Association of European Businesses the potential of the region in the development of digital technologies.

The Chairman of the Committee for Information Technology and Telecommunications of the Association of European Businesses, Edgars Puzo, and representatives of foreign companies including Google, Nokia, Philips LLC, Ericsson, Atos, and Cisco Solutions LLC attended the event.

As Aleksander Ruppel noted in his speech, the IT-sphere gravitates rather towards regions with comfortable living conditions than towards large financial and industrial centers all over the world today. According to him, there are not only favorable climatic conditions but also a fairly high level of education, a healthy social environment, and a developed and stable economy in the Krasnodar Region, – the Press Service of the Administration of the Krasnodar Region reports.

Currently, over 900 IT companies work in the region. At the end of 2020, their revenue amounted to about 17 billion rubles. Based on expert estimates, every second ruble of revenue of IT companies in the Southern Federal District comes from Kuban companies.

– The export of IT services has increased by one and a half times and last year amounted to more than 35 million dollars over the past two years, – Aleksander Ruppel emphasized.

He focused on several promising areas taking into consideration the specifics of the Krasnodar Region. These are information security, artificial intelligence and neural networks, implementation of the Smart City system, IT outsourcing, and BigData. Aleksander Ruppel believes that the emergence of new major players in these niches will give an impetus to the development of several economic sectors.

Therefore, the region pays great attention to state support for the IT sector. A law to support the IT industry was adopted in the region last year. It provides subsidies for reimbursement of part of the costs when paying interest on loans, creating new jobs, and improving the qualifications of specialists among other things. The Regional Microfinance Fund offers low-interest loans for IT companies at a rate of 2% per annum. Currently, an investment project on creating an IT park is being implemented in Krasnodar. The specialized Association for Digital Development of the Krasnodar Region was created.
